A Concise Guide to Butterflies and Moths

Balmer, Elizabeth - Personal Name;

Butterflies and moths have always held a special fascination for mankind; their beauty, delicacy and energy have inspired ys throughout the ages, providing us with symbols for love, rebirth and the soul. The metamorphosis from caterpillar to pupa to butterfly remains one of the most amazing feats that nature has to offer. Yet many people take these remarkable insects for granted, few realising that there are around 160.000 different species of butterfly and moth across all corners constant struggle to survive in a world which seems filled with hungry predators, and the amazing adaptations which is clearly illustrated here. Although considered the dull cousin to the butterfly, moths are as varied and as stunning, and often display the most remarkable survival techniques, from mimicking other insects, birds and even snakes to biting , squealing and spitting.
